By
using Sulzer
mixers some
widely recognized
corrosion
problems in
oil refineries
and gas plants
can be significantly
reduced.

Oil Sampling
|
|
 |
Crude
oil sampling
to determine
water and
solids content
is of importance
for crude
pricing. ISO
3171 code
is used to
approve the
sampling method.
To reach approval,
representative
samples are
mandatory,
and the problem
of homogenizing
water and
solids throughout
the pipe cross
section is
often underestimated.

| Crude
Oil Blending
|
|
Refiners
are more and
more using
direct blending
systems for
plant inputs
and outputs.
In the past,
blending of
the final
products (e.g.
different
gasoline)
was made in
the storage
tanks, tak-ing
several days
to be performed.
Blending different
low viscous
and miscible
hydrocarbons
inline with
static mixers
is the state
of the art
today, and
Sulzer static
mixers ensure
intensive
blending of
miscible products
resulting
in a very
homogenous
end product.

| Crude
oil desalting
|
|
Effective
crude desalting
is reached
by first optimizing
the crude/wash
water contacting
for the dissolution
of the salt,
followed by
an effective
separation
of the two
phases to
avoid water
carry over
in the crude.

Desalting
|
|
Gas
washing systems
with Sulzer
mixers are
used to dissolve
salts into
injected wash
water. These
salts - which
are created
as a result
of a neutralization
reaction at
the top of
the atmospheric
distillation
column - if
not eliminated,
could begin
to crystallize,
plugging and
corroding
overhead equipment.

| Gas-Liquid
Distributor upsteam
of heat exchanger
|
|
|
In
the LNG process,
hydrocarbon
gases (C1-C4)
need to be
cooled down
in a large
multi tube
heat exchanger
with several
passes. To
ensure an
efficient
heat transfer,
the gas-liquid
mixture needs
to be homogeneously
dispersed
over the whole
pipe cross
section so
that each
pipe of the
heat exchanger
gets the same
amount of
gas and liquid.
